  • You’re invited to join your colleagues for the 5th Annual TxCSL Summer Service-Learning Institute, the premier professional development event in service-learning in Texas.  This year’s institute will include workshops by nationally recognized consultants Cathy Berger Kaye, Jim Toole, and Shelley Billig, in addition to workshops by outstanding Texas presenters.  For those new to service-learning, you’ll gain practical resources and helpful suggestions to allow you to be successful right away.  Intermediate and advanced practitioners will deepen their knowledge of service-learning through targeted sessions on topics such as the new service-learning standards, authentic assessment of service-learning projects, strategies for rigorous learning across the curriculum, and ways to sustain and institutionalize success.  Everyone will benefit from the opportunity to grow professionally, network with peers, and learn about exciting programs and initiatives such as the State Farm Youthful Driver Safety grant, PeaceJam, and Future Problem Solvers.  Attendees are also invited to enjoy a fabulous dinner reception on Thursday night that includes an evening at the Bob Bullock Texas History Museum and the Blanton Museum of Art, two of Austin’s finest venues.  Come prepared to have a great time while you learn how to facilitate wonderful service-learning projects with your students!

The Institute will also include a special Youth Track for teams of middle and high school students who will come together to strengthen their service-learning skills and participate in one of two student-designed service-learning projects, one environmental and the other a social action project. Youth will also enjoy a pool party on Wednesday to cap off a day of planning, learning, and presenting and will be able to showcase their service-learning experience at the Institute during the closing session.  The Youth Track is limited to 60 participants, so be sure to register a team soon!
